Raised on the old-time music of Don Messer, Calvin's musical talent quickly expanded to include a wide array of styles including Métis, French Canadian, Country, Swing, and traditional which he regularly performs. He has a remarkable talent for creating, having composed near 700 tunes in a variety of styles, many of which have become standard contest and dance tunes played across North America and Europe. His creativity was acknowledged when he was commissioned to compose 5 fiddle tunes for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies. To date, he is the proud author of 69 of his own albums.
