Gentiane MG Trio

March 28, 2019 8:30 pm. Originally from Saguenay, Gentiane studied at the Chicoutimi Music Conservatory before leaving for Montreal to pursue superior studies in Jazz Performance. Twice McGill award holder, she studied alongside Jan Yarczyk, Rémi Bolduc and Andre White. She also pursued her master's degree alongside internationally renowned pianist Jean-Michel Pilc. Michaud-Gagnon is a young pianist who has been active on the Canadian jazz scene for several years. She has performed alongside numerous renowned musicians including Jim Doxas, Adrian Vedady, Yannick Rieu, Andre White, Dave Laing and John Hollenbeck. Her first trio album featuring bassist Levi Dover and drummer Louis-Vincent Hamel has been classified by CBC music as being part of 10 outstanding jazz releases of 2017. After its release, she performed her original music with the Gentiane MG Trio at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, at the Montreal Off Jazz Festival, where she received the François-Marcaurelle/Guilde des Musiciens du Québec award, and at the UV International Jazz Festival (Mexico). She has also performed in jazz clubs such as Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill (Montreal), Dièse Onze (Montreal), Emmet Rey (Toronto), Record Runner (Ottawa), Zinco Jazz Club (Mexico), Casa Franca (Mexico) and Saint-Angèle (Québec). She has taught and gave masterclasses at the University of Veracruz (Mexico), at the LaFaro Jazz Institute (Mexico) and at McGill University (Montreal).Gentiane MG Trio released their first album entitled Eternal Cycle in June 2017. The unconventional forms of the pieces lay out a framework which inspires creative freedom.
