Eternal Light

March 17, 2018 7:30 pm. Requiem Op.48 Gabriel FauréEternal Light...a Requiem : Howard GoodallChoral singers and music lovers alike share a deep love for the first work on this evening's programme, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem. With its vulnerable, intimate Pie Jesu, it is impossible to surpass in beauty. The second work on the programme is a new approach to the idea of a Requiem. By British sensation Howard Goodall, award-winning composer for TV, film, stage- and the Sanctuary, this concert will undoubtedly be a first encounter for most of the audience. His Eternal Light is not inspired terror and pleading but by kindness and solace for the bereaved in the face of their grief. With its constantly shifting stresses (and time signatures!), and non-traditional, personal texts, Goodall's work is refreshing and contemporary yet filled with the melodic beauty of the great masters. Come and meet a new Master! With Ottawa Choral Society , Jean-Sebastien Vallee, conductor, soprano, Ellen McAteer, tenor Jean-Philippe Lazure, baritone Jonah Spungin, Caroline Leonardelli, harp, Scott Richardson, piano, and Matthew Larkin, organ. 439 Queen StOttawa, ON K1R 5A6..
