On Sunday, April 23rd, we are pleased to have José Luis Torres here in the gallery for an artist talk at the beginning of the reception, from 1 to 3 pm. All welcome!José Luis Torres's exhibition Fantames is bursting with playfulness and astonishment produced by the transformation of how we view everyday objects. This exhibition is made up of sculptural works as well as an installation. The installation project is a site specific work not just in the gallery space but working with the unique architecture space of the gallery. The work starts with everyday objects of all kinds united in a fantastic way, literally overturning the viewer's idea of these elements. Fantames creates a dialogue between the works brought in and the one creates with the space.In Fantames José Luis Torres is analyzing the role played by objects related to human activities in our culture, while highlighting the fact that these objects are also the means by which we access representations of ourselves. The repetitions and accumulation of the objects take on new meaning in this context.José Luis Torres says "The strategies I use when approaching the use of space play an important role in my creative process. My pieces are frequently spontaneous configurations, in the form of site-specific installations and ephemeral interventions with architectural aspects. Throughout the constructions, notions of sculpture and architecture are melded together.Spectators are invited to look, explore and experience the physical work of art which is life sized."José Luis Torres was born in Argentina and has a Bachelor's Degree in visual arts, a Master's Degree in sculpture and training in architecture and integrating art with architecture.
