February 9, 2018 to March 27, 2018Monday: 9:00 amTuesday: 9:00 amWednesday: 9:00 amThursday: 9:00 amFriday: 9:00 amSaturday: 9:00 amSunday: 9:00 am. On Sunday, February 11, we are pleased to have Karine Giboulo in the gallery for an artist talk at the beginning of the reception, from 1 pm to 3 pm. All welcome!Broken Circle is an incredibly engaging, powerful and moving sculptural installation that delicately engages with Canada's broken relationship with First Nations communities. Giboulo employs sculpture as a mode of storytelling; through the creation of incredible colourful miniatures that are reminiscent of museum dioramas she tells the stories.Broken Circle is a collection of stories. Mathias, an Innu from Natashquan and residential school survivor, generously shared his stories with the artist. Detailed vignettes jump between generations to narrate a non-linear story inspired by Mathias', and others, words.Giboulo hand sculpts each figure with compassion and respect. The laborious process and details she invests is testimony to her awareness of the power of stories. She conducts her research with the questions of a journalist, the field notes of an anthropologist. She reports her research with the sensibilities of a storyteller.. 245 Centrum Blvd.Ottawa, ON K1E 0A1.. Event Details. Location: 245 Centrum Blvd., Ottawa
