Mélange

May 2, 2017 5:00 pm. Experience Mélange, a celebratory exhibition of work by the Rectory Art House artists, curated by Dale Smith. The exhibition kicks off with a vernissage on Tuesday 2 May, 5 to 9 pm. All are welcome.Mélange refers both to the storied 150 year history of the mixed inhabitants of Lowertown and to the divergent work of the seven artists who create from the Rectory Art House on Murray Street in present day Lowertown: Tiffany April, Karen Bailey, Gwen Frankton, Sharon Lafferty, Jeannie Polisuk, Karen Rasmussen and Lori Victor.Historically, Lowertown was a mélange of Irish immigrants, French-Canadians, entrepreneurs, merchants, farmers, butchers, canal and lumber workers. Today, at Mélange in Saint Brigid's you'll find a floating vessel, environment themed installations, a new take on old masters paintings, guide dogs dancing, psychological perceptions, explorations of memory and the ocean's liminal zone.Built in 1890, Saint Brigid's played a vital role in Lowertown as the Catholic church for the Irish population. Now deconsecrated and transformed to an arts centre, Saint Brigid's continues to contribute to the rich heritage of both Lowertown and the Ottawa area. Mélange demonstrates how.Vivid and thought provoking in turns, Mélange has something enticing in store for everyone.. 310 St. Patrick StreetOttawa, ON K1N 5K5.. Event Details.
