The Poor Chefs Competition

February 23, 2017 6:00 pm. Operation Come Home is pleased to announce our Second Annual Poor Chefs Competition! As a part of this year's Reality Campaign, the Poor Chefs Competition is designed to highlight the struggle our clients, and all other people living on social assistance, face preparing a nutritious and tasty meal.We've challenged some of Ottawa's favourite chefs to create a meal using only $3.15 and 3 items from our list of common food bank donations. The meals will be presented at the event where celebrity judges will evaluate each dish. The winner will have their name added to the Poor Chefs trophy and will receive a year of free knife sharpening from Knifewear (https://knifewear.com).We're very excited to announce that this year's judges are,Mike Bulthuis; executive director of Alliance to End Homelessness OttawaAnne DesBrisay; local food author, writer and restaurant criticMichael Maidment; executive director of the Ottawa Food BankSandra & Carter; 105.3 K!SS FMCatherine McKenney, Ottawa city councillor.Appetizers prepared by one of our social enterprises, Foodworks, (www.foodworksoch.com), will be distributed throughout the evening, in addition to a cash bar where wine and beer will be available.
