Can libraries really make us better citizens?

To kick off the new year, Library and Archives Canada invites you to an exciting event with Argentine-Canadian author Alberto Manguel.Newly appointed as director of the national library of Argentina, Mr. Manguel—writer, translator, editor and critic—will share his reflections on the role of libraries in a digital world that is changing at an unbelievable speed. He will draw an intriguing parallel with the most famous ancient library: "Alexandria in the 21st century: How can a library help us become better citizens?The presentation is part of the Wallot-Sylvestre seminars organized by Library and Archives Canada. These lectures promote the exchange of ideas in fields such as library science, information science, archival science and history.Alberto Manguel was born in Buenos Aires in 1948. He has published several novels, including News From a Foreign Country Came and All Men Are Liars, and non-fiction, including Curiosity, A History of Reading and The Library at Night. He compiled The Dictionary of Imaginary Places with Gianni Guadalupi. Mr. Manguel has received numerous international awards, including the Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters from France.
