Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies

January 14, 2017 8:00 pm. Join the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) for an evening of storytelling through song with one of Canada's favorite musicians and raconteurs! Alan Doyle and the Beautiful Gypsies will help us kick off a year storytelling in all its forms with a rollicking special Canada 150 concert to welcome 2017. Each month of the sesquicentennial year OPL will highlight stories in a different form. We kick off our Canada 150 theme of Storytelling with a month focused on Storytelling through Song.Alan Doyle, actor, producer, best-selling author, and best known as lead singer for Newfoundland's beloved Great Big Sea, released his second solo album, So Let's Go, in January 2015. Title-track lead single So Let's Go, is a rousing rallying cry that is further proof of Doyle's ability to draw the listener in with an upbeat vibe that is rooted in Newfoundland while being universally appealing. Doyle's band the Beautiful Gypsies includes talented musicians from across Canada who are guaranteed to captivate a crowd with their energetic show."This unique library event gives us the opportunity to celebrate and feature an age-old tradition that has appeal across generations." said Ottawa Public Library CEO, Danielle McDonald. "By shining the spotlight on song we are also reminded of the fundamental role music can play in the development of early literacy skills. I'm thrilled to invite members of the community to help the library get a little loud when we host musical bard Alan Doyle and his band of Beautiful Gypsies for an East-coast-style kitchen party," McDonald said.Bring your OPL card or sign up for a library card the evening of the show for a chance to take home a free copy of Doyle's 2014 candid, heartwarming, and best-selling memoir of growing up in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland ‒ a start that set him up for a wonderful life of entertaining and connecting with others through stories, music, and song. The first 150 audience members to show their active library card before the show will get a copy of Where I Belong.. 101 Centrepointe DriveNepean, ON K2G 5K7.. Event Details.
