This Ottawa painter, muralist and liturgical artist created works of great spirituality, humanity and passion that reflect his personal quest for knowledge and meaning. As a prolific master of many artistic mediums, Trottier sought to reflect his own unique journey of exploration. “Gerald Trottier was a staunch believer in the importance of visual art to human life itself,” says curator Don Monet. “His work almost defies words, but rather invites you to surround yourself, immerse yourself and experience his artistic journey, the richness of his colours, the bold shapes and dynamic forms.” From powerful self-portraits, spectacular compositions, lush landscapes and superb draughtsmanship, Trottier’s work resonates with spirituality and humanity while reflecting his roots in the Flemish, Surrealist and Expressionist schools.
